To unclog a basement drain, start with the trap. Pour water into the grate if it is dry. Do not use chemicals. If water still comes up, or several fixtures are slow, it is often the main drain. We clear the floor drain. Estimate over the phone.
What you can check
Lift the grate. Pull out debris you can see. Put water back in the trap. If the smell leaves and water goes down, the trap was dry. If it still gurgles, see smells and noises.
Stop there. A hardware-store cable in a floor drain pushes the clog farther. Acid attacks the trap and does not clean the main drain.
Trap and main drain
One slow drain is the trap or a branch. Toilet, shower, and floor drain together is the main drain. Water along the walls after rain is the French drain, not this drain. See clean a French drain.
